Presser, Hunsaker power Bulldogs past Vikings

SANDPOINT — Senior Tyler Presser (182) jumped up a weight class to score an impressive win, and Hyrum Hunsaker (145) scored a late takedown to earn a 6-4 decision, leading Sandpoint to a 42-31 win over Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday in a nonleague dual at Sandpoint High School. 

Hunsaker and Mario Peregrina were tied at 4-4 late in the third period of arguably the most exciting match of the night, before Hunsaker scored a takedown with less than 20 seconds left in the match to pull out the win.

“He beat a kid who had hammered on him in the past. He kept moving and staying in position and the kid wore out,” described Bulldog head coach Mike Randles, who felt Presser had a strong match. “He went up a weight class and took out a state-ranked kid. He kept attacking and pulled it off.”

Sandpoint (6-2) now turns its attention to the River City Duals in Post Falls on Friday and Saturday.
