Wampus Cats fall in double overtime

| January 20, 2016 6:00 AM

PLUMMER — Dylan Roper exploded for a season-high 25 points and eight steals, and Spencer Jeffres had a monster game on the blocks, but it wasn’t quite enough as Clark Fork fell 73-69 to Lakeside in double-overtime during North Star League boys basketball action Tuesday night at Ron Miller Court.

The 6-foot-3, 240 pound Jeffres was a handful down low, finishing with an extremely rare double-double of 21 points and 20 rebounds, and the Wampus Cats (0-10, 0-3 NSL) had chances for the final shot in both overtimes, with a shot by Roper to end the first overtime nearly going in.

“Dylan got a good look, it was open, it just didn’t go in. We had our chance to win in both overtimes,” said Cats coach George Thornton. “I liked the hustle and the way they reacted as a team. We outscored them 19-4 in the fourth quarter. Dylan had 10 and Spence had seven in the quarter.”

Hunter Boudousquie added 15 points, six rebounds and three assists, and James Cope four points, five dimes and four boards in the loss. A tough intentional foul call late in the second overtime really hurt the Cats, as the Knights made both free throws and retained possession, icing the game.

“They were one point ahead of us and they got that intentional foul and got the ball back,” described Thornton. “That really just killed us.”

Bryar Sanchez had 26 points, seven rebounds, eight steals and four assists for Lakeside (2-11, 1-3 NSL).

“We came out fine offensively,” Lakeside coach Butch Nomee said. “We just went stagnant in the fourth quarter and kind of let up off the gas and Clark Fork fought hard and played well the entire game. We’re just fortunate to come out with the win.”

Clark Fork continues a busy week of three games when Mullan comes to town on Thursday.
