Jaguars sweep Wampus Cats in NSL clashes
CLARK FORK — Senior Leslie Kiebert exploded for a season-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds, but the Wampus Cats had no answer for Bella Murekatete, who tallied 30 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks to lead Genesis Prep to a 60-50 win over Clark Fork in North Star League girls hoops on Tuesday night.
Murekatete, a 6-foot-4 freshman, was simply too tall on the blocks, doing much of her damage right under the basket. Providing an outside threat was freshman Shaye Schreibeis, who swished four of her five 3-pointers in the third quarter, on her way to a 21 point night, while Rachel Schroeder added seven points and 10 dimes.
“I thought they played really good,” said Jaguars coach Debbie Holt. “It was good to get our inside game going. We executed well and played together.”
Kiebert did much of her damage from the perimeter, as driving to the rim was tough against the Jaguars (7-10, 3-6 NSL). Freshman Tessa Sutton posted a double-double in defeat, tallying 15 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, Brooke Stevens added six points and three assists, and Hailey Gant and Emily Garman three steals each for the Wampus Cats (5-8, 3-4 NSL), who beat the Jags in the first meeting of the season.
“I can’t believe they’ve lost as many games as they have,” said Stevens of the Jags, as his team was able to hang around with a strong second half. “Brooke and Leslie are working really well together, moving the ball.”
