Kiebert steal seals win for Wampus Cats

| January 28, 2016 6:31 PM

CLARK FORK — Leslie Kiebert had 12 points and nine rebounds, but it was a steal late in the game that helped the Wampus Cats notch a 37-32 win over Noxon in nonleague girls basketball action Thursday night at Clark Fork High School.

Brooke Stevens tallied 10 points and seven rebounds, Emily Garman four boards and Zoe Speelmon three steals to lead the Wampus Cats (6-8), who built a lead before Noxon nearly came back to tie the game in the final minute.

“We managed to hold on. They (Noxon) got it within three, then Leslie had a steal and made the free throws,” said Stevens, lauding the tough man-to-man defense of Speelmon and Garman. “Zoe and Emily are playing really well defensively, they’ve been working so hard.”

Clark Fork hosts Lakeside on Saturday in a North Star League game. Tip off is at 2:30 p.m.

Jeffres, Boudousquie play strong in loss

CLARK FORK — Spencer Jeffres and Hunter Boudousquie helped key a big second half comeback, which came up short as Clark Fork lost 56-46 to Noxon in nonleague boys basketball Thursday night in Clark Fork.

Boudousquie posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Jeffres added 13 points, four boards and four dimes, and Dylan Roper 12 points as the trio combined for all but seven of the Wampus Cats (1-13) points.

“Spencer and Hunter worked so well together at times, just outstanding,” praised Cats head coach George Thornton. “We really only had four kids score. We need to relax and let the shots go.”

The Wampus Cats dug a 25-15 deficit at half, before exploding for 20 points in the third quarter. James Cope had six points, four assists and two steals, and Conorey Vogel a pair of thefts for the Cats, who continue to play streaky against a tall Noxon squad.

“At times we played really well. We started passing the ball and cutting through, and it worked every time,” said Thornton. “Then we’d get befuddled, and started getting trapped and throwing lousy passes.”
