POAC seeking volunteer help

| July 2, 2016 1:00 AM

If you are looking for something to do with your free time this summer, look no further. Pend Oreille Arts Council needs your help. The 44th annual Arts & Crafts Fair will attract thousands of locals and tourists as it fills City Beach with over 100 artist and food vendors on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can choose from many volunteer opportunities. If you want to put your back into it, there is a need for help setting up on Friday and tearing down on Sunday afternoons.

During the fair there’s a need for volunteers to give the artist vendors a break. Many of them are staffing their booths by themselves and need to step away periodically.

If you’re more inclined to play with the kids, there are several needs in the Children’s Booth. Children under 12 are invited to participate in arts and crafts projects in the booth and to have their faces painted. Volunteers are needed to check in the children. And, if the artist in you is interested, POAC needs face painters and volunteers to supervise activities such as making jewelry out of breakfast cereal, sculpting with Play-Doh, painting pictures and coloring.

There’s also a need for help staffing the Information Booth. Selling ice cold water to hot attendees is one of the highlights. To volunteer, contact Hannah Combs at 263-6139 or email poactivities@gmail.com.

If you can’t help with the Arts & Crafts Fair, but are interested in volunteering throughout the year, also contact POAC. Volunteers are needed to help with the Kaleidoscope program that, in partnership with Community Assistance League, brings art to elementary schools. No arts education is necessary, you will be taught all you need to know.

Other opportunities include helping staff with the Ovations program that brings performing arts to school children; assisting the Visual Arts Committee that hangs art for each exhibition at the POAC Gallery and its ancillary galleries and bringing expertise to the fundraising committee.
