July 3, 1916 — TRY THIS

The two were very anxious to get into Montana, or so it appeared to J. Klug, Clarksfork ferryman. Traveling from Spokane to Missoula in a car, they wanted to cross by the Clarksfork ferry. This was impossible, due to high water, but they were not to be thwarted and so changed their bearing enough to get on the N.P. tracks and drive their machine across the bridge. If the reader’s imagination is working, it may give some idea of the nerve required to tackle a trestle bridge in an auto, especially so long a bridge as at Clarksfork.

ROUGH RIDERS ORGANIZING

M.T. McCarthy, manager of the Fidelity Trust company, is trying to get in touch with county men interested in organizing a troop of rough riders. There is no doubt that good horsemen will be needed on the border or in Mexico itself should war come and northern Idaho is capable of supplying its share. Troops that are ready will be called first, thus those interested are urged to contact Mr. McCarthy as quickly as possible.

SPRINKLING RATES REDUCED

The public utilities commission approved new lawn sprinkling rates for the Sandpoint water co. The rates will be 10 cents a foot for the first 25 ft. frontage per season, 5 cents for each additional ft., with a minimum season charge of $2.50. Thus a patron with 50 frontage feet will pay $3.75 whereas before he would have paid $5.
