July 5, 1966 — BOWLING LEAGUE TIE

The strong hold that the Strain-Slette team had earlier has continued to weaken. Last week they slipped into a three-way tie for first with the Ds and Bs and the Hillbillies. The Hulquist-O’Donnell team meantime dropped from second to fourth but are just one point behind the leaders.

The high net game last week was rolled by Bill O’Donnell who had a 196. O’Donnell, who bowls as a substitute, has the high average with a 180.

Dort McCrum bowled the high gross game in the Women’s Summer League with a 244. Louise Olenslager, a substitute, tops the league’s average with a 179. Dort McCrum is second at 171 with Helen Slette’s 162 good for third.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Henry met their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry of Seattle at the airport Friday. They came to attend the wedding of their cousin, Gloria Ames.

Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Ames, Miss Gloria Ames and Richard were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Holt at Fry Creek Thursday.

NEW BUSINESS OPENS

Swede Nordgaarden recently opened his new shop Swede’s Auto Repair at 425 N. Division. He was formerly employed by a downtown dealership.

July 5, 1916 — NEW DEPOT GETTING ON

The foundation for the new Northern Pacific depot has been completed and the plumbing and some of the steel beams are in place, as well as the heating plant. Cut sandstone for the trimming is here and the walls will probably rise rapidly.

William Ashley moved his family from Coeur d’Alene to the Barker home at 424 S. Euclid.

Lake Pend d’Oreille is steadily rising. The government gauge at the city docks show it to be 20.65 feet above the low water mark. It has risen .6 of a foot since Saturday, and is now within 7 inches of the high point reached three years ago.

C.F. Ewing commenced erecting a nine-room modern house at the corner of Fourth and Lake.

J.W. Holmes, well known here as a resident of the Mirror Lake section and owner of “Strawberry Acres,” was in Sandpoint Saturday.

The Swedish ladies meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Melquist next Tuesday at two o’clock. Meet at Otto Bolin’s residence, 722 N. Fifth, Milltown, at one o’clock. Transportation will be furnished from there to the ranch and back.

Eaton H. Edgerton has again undertaken the arduous task of getting out a new city directory. It has been three years since the last one and everyone feels the need of a new directory.
