Billie Jewel Wallace, 93, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, in Phoenix, Ariz.

She was born on April 11, 1922, in Miles City, Mont., to William and Lillian Campbell. The family moved to Cocolalla, Idaho, and later to Sandpoint, Idaho, where she attended high school.

After her marriage to Charles Wallace, she worked in partnership at the Wallace Brothers’ store, post office and service station in Careywood, Idaho. When Chas retired, she also worked in several restaurants, managing two, baking a “million” pies and preparing countless meals.

One of her favorite things to do was traveling the backroads all across our country. She visited more than 40 states over the many years. She liked to see the little towns, state and national parks as she took her time adventuring. In her later years, Billie lived in Arizona, but always remembered Idaho as her true home.

Billie was always involved with crafting and creating. She quilted herself and inspired others to learn to quilt, crocheted, worked with macramé cord making interesting chairs and footstools, baking and teaching others to bake her famous apple pies. She made many baby blankets and afghans as gifts, as well as hand- sewing other baby needs. She enjoyed the crafts of others as gifts. One of her favorites was a painted bowl with a lizard crawling up the side made by her great-grandson, Trinidad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Evan and Ralph; her sisters, Hazel, Ruby, Ruth, Lorabell and Lorene; her husband, Charles; and her granddaughter, Corrine. In remembrance also of her dear friend, Glen.

She is survived by her sister, Mable Erickson of North Dakota; her daughters, Beverly Turbin of Spirit Lake, Idaho; and Anita (John) Zolondz of Merrillville, Ind.; her grandchildren, Janyte Scott, Roger Scott, Randy (Robyne) Scott, Patricia (Carl) Jimenez, and Julia Zolondz and her husband, Bobby Tyning; and nine great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

We will celebrate Billie’s memorial at Westmond Cemetery on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 11 a.m., with a luncheon following at The View Restaurant in Cocolalla.
