| July 7, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Get ready to catch some great local baseball, as the Sandpoint American Legion team is hosting its first 16U tournament in some time starting on Friday, with 12 regional teams coming to town for three days of action.

Come cheer on your Sandpoint Dawgs as they take on teams from Southern Idaho, Montana, Washington and Oregon. The Dawgs are looking for a repeat performance after winning the Titan Kicker Classic in Spokane Washington back in May.

The 16U Dawgs will open the tournament Friday afternoon against the Cubs from Boise Idaho, with first pitch slated for 2 p.m. at War Memorial Field, followed by games on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., also at the field by the lake. The other half of the bracket will play at Pine Street Field starting on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Also in the mix is Sandpoint’s Short A 14U squad, looking for their first tournament win following an impressive 13-3 regular season record. The 14U Bracket will be played at Cooper Field in Rathdrum on Friday, July 8. The 14U Dawgs take on the Renegades from Rathdrum starting at 4 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday against the Spokane Expos at 3:45 p.m. and Shadle Park at 6 p.m.

Championship games for both age groups will be played in Sandpoint on Sunday, July 10. The 14U Championship game will be held at Pine St. Field 3:45 p.m. and the 16U Championship game will be held on the same day at War Memorial Field, also starting at 3:45 p.m. Both games are free to the public, so please come join in the fun and support your Sandpoint American Legion Teams.
