Henry Bruce Hoffman, 78, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016, in Sandpoint, Idaho, after a short battle with cancer.

A memorial will be held in September.

Bruce was born on July 19, 1937, in Glasgow, Mont., to Valentine and Eleanor Hoffman. His family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, when he was 2 years old. He attended schools in Sandpoint, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1956. He then attended North Idaho College.

Bruce married the love of his life, Jeane VanRossum on Oct. 20, 1957. They had five children, four boys and one girl. Bruce and Jeane would have been married 59 years come this October. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service, fighting fires and surveying. He then moved to Spokane so his eldest son could attend a school for the deaf. He worked for GSA as a dispatcher.

In 1973, the family moved back to Idaho and took over the family farm. He then worked for the local school district as a bus driver, driving a normal route and taking teams to away games and later he worked as a custodian. In 1984, Bruce moved to Fairfield, Calif., where he worked as head of maintenance at Solano Mall. After his daughter graduated high school, they moved back to the family farm. He worked for Peak Sand and Gravel as a scale person and loader operator at the Dover pit and other area pits for over 10 years.

Bruce was passionate about his family. His favorite thing was family get togethers and holidays. He was involved with the Boy Scouts with his sons when they were younger. He, along with Jeane, took care of the family farm with all the menagerie of animals over the years. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in whatever activity they were involved in. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, photography and bird watching. His family will miss his sense of humor, his amazing smile and his willingness to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife, Jeane Hoffman of Sandpoint; four sons, William Hoffman, James Hoffman, Thomas (Dalin) Hoffman, and Robert (Sharon) Hoffman; his daughter, Angela (David) Turnbaugh; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford Reynolds of Chattaroy, Wash.; and a sister, Anita (John) Robinson of Missoula, Mont.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, and one great-grandson.
