MCC luau offers a taste of the tropics

| July 14, 2016 1:00 AM

HOPE — A tropical-style getaway in paradise is on offer this Saturday as the Memorial Community Center gears up for its annual Bodacious Barbecue fundraiser and social event. This year's event is a Hawaiian luau.

The setting is the historic Litehouse Beach House, 46242 Highway 200, on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. Beachfront fare will feature roasted pork and all the fixings. Appetizers, beverages and desserts will cap off the tropical feast. Dennis Wilson will be spinning the tunes during the late afternoon event, according to Carolyn Speelmon, site manager for MCC.

The highlight of the annual summer celebration is a live auction, and this year's prize lineup is enticing. A weekend getaway at The Coeur d'Alene Resort, a private cruise for 36 on Lake Pend Oreille, season passes to the Pend Oreille Arts Council Performance Series and a Hope Marina gift certificate for $1,680 are among the items up for bid, Speelmon said.

The luau barbecue starts at 4:30 p.m. July 16. Tickets, which cost $50 per person, are available at www.memorialcommunitycenter.com or 208-264-5481.
