It was a quiet and cool evening on Sunday, July 3, when we discovered that there was a concert at Farmin Park. How lovely, perhaps a quartet playing patriotic music?

No, it was a grunge trio that recently graduated to the BID time. I’m sure that their neighbors were delighted to have them play anywhere else. The 90-plus dB would have landed me a citation, not to mention an OSHA violation for the potential of workplace hearing loss.

But assume that I know nothing about music and that we were darn lucky to have booked them — the “concert” drew less than 20 people, most of whom were apparently friends of the band. (This is discounting the southern half of the LaQuinta, who were “attending” whether they wanted to or not …)

The BID blowing money is not news — but none of the BID or other identifiable chamber employees were in attendance. How can they possibly evaluate whether this was a good investment? They can’t. This is simply another documented case of wasting money that our city or better yet, business owners, could surely better use. Didn’t we hire a city administrator to straighten out this sort of thing?

Kate wants to represent us in Boise, using this same talent for wasting resources. In the meantime, the trash cans overflowed all day July 3-5. Is this what she considers stewardship? At least the BID trimmed some of their bloated expenses. Nice. Weren’t those items supposed to be provided by the chamber?
