July 19, 1966 — KIWANIAN OF THE WEEK

Jim Reed was named Kiwanian of the week for his adventures on July 4. Reed and a partner were going down the Flathead river on a raft, doing some fishing, when they glanced upstream to see a partially submerged boat coming with a woman in it and a man with a life jacket. Reed and friend scooped the woman out of the water and aided her in reaching shore.

WIND DOES DAMAGE WORST IN YEARS

Last Wednesday about 9 p.m. Sandpoint was visited by one of the worst wind and dust storms in its history. Telegraph and telephone services were cut off, electric wires down and for a time the city was in darkness. The large tent at the corner of Fourth and Cedar, in which the Church of God were holding services was blown down but luckily no one was hurt. A large plate glass window in the front of the Sandpoint Mercantile store was broken, and a barn west of town was unroofed.

Geo. Rooker the light company manager, hurried to the plant when the current went off and arranged for starting the engines, and within an hour Supt. Ruel was generating current from the local plant.
