Summer heats up with A plethora of entertainment

SANDPOINT — This is more like it — hot, sunny days, perfect evenings and all the excuses we need to get out and enjoy this paradise of a place we call home.

This week, we’ve got historical lake tours (that one’s today), outdoor movies, fundraising galas, dinner concerts, loads of Panida offerings and more live music than it would be humanly possible to take in — but we’ll try!

Thursday, July 21

Kalsipel Tour Aboard the Shawnodese

Point of Departure: Sandpoint City Beach

Time: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Anna Armstrong and other Kalispel elders will be guiding this 2-hour tour to their homeland, Pend d’Oreille Bay to Kootenai Point and beyond. Includes an Indian Taco picnic.

Admission: $48, including lunch. Reservations required due to limited number in party.

‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

A surprise audience favorite at Sundance, the film is a wacky story of the way-unlikely alliance between a troublesome teenager and a surly, wilderness loving loner. ‘Wilderpeople’ was written and directed by New Zealand’s Taika Waititi. The film has a gently absurdist quality being simultaneously sweet but with a sensibility, mixing adventure and comedy. Rated PG

Jake Robin

Time: 6-8 p.m.

Join Jake on the patio jiving the original acoustic rock sounds with pop culture lyrical charisma.

Scott Reid

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., Sandpoint

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Usually playing with his high-energy bluegrass, newgrass, folk-rock band, Monarch Mountain Band, Scott brings his high-stepping, toe-tapping progressive music to the Beer Hall.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Chris Laterzo & Buffalo Robe

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Music starts at 9 p.m.

Los Angeles based singer-songwriter and recording artist Chris Laterzo has managed to keep the muse alive with the release of his fifth and latest album, “West Coast Sound”.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Friday, July 22

Underground Kindness Fundraising Gala

Venue: Shangri La, 116 Bella Circle, in Sagle. Directions: Hwy 95 South, left on Bottle Bay road, left on Hanford just before the railroad track, right at stop sign, left on Bella. Follow the signs.

Time: 5:30-9:30 p.m.

Shangri La at the Lake is UK’s 4th annual fundraiser supporting programs in our Public Schools, the Juvenile Justice Center, and The Afterschool Project. In the 2015-16 school year UK presented over 400 classes!

Everyone is welcome for this fun, family friendly evening of eating, drinking, and dancing to the rockin’ sounds of RFB, live and silent auctions, and presentations by Compassionists, Educators, and Students.

Movie Night in the Park

Venue: Bonner County History Museum, 611 S. Ella Ave., in

Sandpoint.

Time: Gates open at 6:30 p.m. for picnics, movie starts at 8:30 p.m.

Come take in a special showing of “The Princess Bride” as you enjoy a summer evening with friends.

Admission: $10 VIP seating for public/$5 for members (including complimentary food and drink), $2 general admission for movie only. Please remember that alcohol is not allowed in the park.

‘Me Before You’

‘Me Before You’ is a love story and a family story, but above all it’s a story of the bravery and sustained effort needed to get back on track when you are forced to redirect the path of a life once it’s been pushed off course. Rated PG-13

Polly O’Keary & The Rhythm Method dinner concert

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

Five-time American Blues Society Best Female Vocalist.

Bill Price

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

It is our yearly gift of music from Bill Price, an acoustic guitarist, singer/songwriter touring from Indiana.

These Two Guys

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Hilber and Mike are making the 1,500-mile trek to Sandpoint to play some music and enjoy the awesome summer weather.

Scotia Road

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., Sandpoint

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Newport’s Scotia Road is coming to Sandpoint for a fun show at the Beer Hall! This 4 piece family band is made up of guitar, mandolin and upright bass mingle with the calming vocals & harmonies of the mother-daughter duo.

Sam Owen Fire District Pancake Breakfast

Venue: Sam Owen Fire District, intersection of Hwy. 200 and Peninsula Rd., in Hope.

Time: 7:30-11 a.m.

Matthew Frantz

Historians have long disputed the origin and life of Matthew Frantz. What we do know, however, is that he is invaluable to music and freedom throughout the world. At least, according to Matthew.

Ron Greene

Ron Greene is heading north for another special night at the Beer Hall. Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West Coast.

Whoa! Two of Sandpoint’s favorite musicians together in a perfect summer setting!

Monday, Aug. 1

Show Camp

Venue: Lakeview Park, next to Memorial Field, in Sandpoint.

Time: 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Aug. 1-5

Under the direction of Darla Dreyer, a former Disney choreographer/director, camp participants will work on acting, dancing, comedy routines and skits, an opening production number and song presentation. Camp will end with a performance for family and friends.

Camp fee: $95. Residents inside Sandpoint City limits receive $5 discount and scholarships are available. Register by July 25, at Sandpoint Parks and Rec., 1123 Lake St., Sandpoint.
