Registration for 2016 season of Sandpoint youth football at hand

SANDPOINT — Attention all area 3rd through 8th graders who want to play tackle football this fall and their family: The deadline to sign up for the lowest rate is today for the 7th/8th grade league, and Sunday for the 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade leagues.
The Spokane Youth Sports Association runs the 7th/8th grade league, and to find details for registration visit “www.sysa.com/football/fall/grid-kids.” The cost of the league is $235, and includes eight games, which start on Sept. 10. For more info on the SYSA and sign-ups, call (509) 536-1800.
The deadline to register for the 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade leagues, run by the Spokane YMCA, is Sunday. To find a registration form, visit “www.ymcaspokane.org/programs/sports/football.” For more information, call (509) 777-9622.
The 3rd/4th grade league features a six game schedule, starting on Sept. 17, and the cost is $180.
The 5th/6th grade league features an eight game schedule, starting on Sept. 10, and the cost is $230.
Financial assistance is available and applications must be submitted prior to registration. Please call the organizations at the phone numbers listed above.
Late registration will also available, for an additional fee of $20, and sign ups are usually accepted before Sandpoint hosts a free two-day football camp in mid-August, which is open to all 3rd-8th graders, whether they’re playing club football or not.
Sandpoint Grid Kids Tackle Football has participated in the YMCA and SYSA leagues for the last nine years. The participation with the organization offers a tackle football option for grades 3-8 competing against teams from around the inland northwest.
Safety equipment, including pads and helmets, are professionally fitted by Kimmel Athletic Supply in Spokane and is included in the cost of registration. All coaches, both head and assistant, have been “Heads Up” certified. “Heads Up Football” is a comprehensive program developed by USA Football to advance player safety in the game of football.
