POAC seeking volunteers

| July 31, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — If you are looking for something to do with your free time this summer, Pend Oreille Arts Council officials say you don’t need to look any further — they need your help.

The 44th annual Arts & Crafts Fair will attract thousands of locals and tourists as it fills City Beach with over 100 artist and food vendors on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A shift is only two hours long and there are several duties to choose from.

During the fair there’s a need for volunteers to give the artist vendors a break. Many of them are staffing their booths by themselves and need to step away periodically. Our roaming volunteers will allow them to take a time out without leaving their booth unattended.

If you’re more inclined to play with the kids, there are several needs in the Children’s Booth. Children under 12 are invited to participate in arts and crafts projects in the booth and to have their faces painted.

Volunteers are needed to check in the children and to help them with craft activities such as making jewelry out of breakfast cereal, sculpting with Play-Doh, painting pictures and coloring. You needn’t have any art skills, just a little patience with children.

There’s also a need for help staffing the Information Booth. Selling ice cold water to hot attendees is one of the highlights. So, if you’re interested in helping POAC make this event the success it’s been for the last 43 years, please call 263-6139 or email poactivities@gmail.com.

If you can’t help with the Arts & Crafts Fair, but are interested in volunteering throughout the year, we want to hear from you. Volunteers are needed to help with the Kaleidoscope program that, in partnership with Community Assistance League, brings art to elementary schools. No arts education is necessary, you will be taught all you need to know.

Other opportunities include helping staff with the Ovations program that brings performing arts to school children; assisting the Visual Arts Committee that hangs art for each exhibition at the POAC Gallery and its ancillary galleries and bringing expertise to the fundraising committee.

From volunteering just an hour or two to a commitment of a few hours per week, POAC will work around your interests and schedule.
