SAR announces 2016 grants, scholarship recipients
Each year the Selkirk Association of Realtors gives thousands of dollars to local groups in need of funding for their community projects and programs in Bonner and Boundary counties. This year, Realtors locally granted more than $10,500 to individuals and groups in Bonner and Boundary counties.
This year’s grant recipients are Boundary County Habitat for Humanity, Community Cancer Services, Bonner General Health Community Hospice, Bonner Soil & Water Conservation District, Bonner Community Food Bank, Hope/Clark Fork Food Bank, Bonner Soil & Water Conservation District, Naples Food Cupboard and Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Post 2453.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Daniel Mire, Lewis & Clark College; Hannah Showers, Montana State University; LaCheale Linscott, North Idaho College; Jessica Bomar, Sandpoint High School; Bobbi Jo Goding, Sandpoint High School; Alicia Hanford, first year WSU; Taylor Newmann, Bozeman High School; and Haley Peterson, home school).
The main fundraiser for this program is the organization’s annual charity golf tournament.
This year is the 26th anniversary of the tournament, which will be held at beautiful Stone Ridge Golf Resort on Friday, June 24. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. This tournament is a scramble/best ball tournament with teams consisting of four players.
The tournament has a $10,000 hole-in-one prize; a putting contest where five names will be drawn from a raffle qualifier for a chance to sink a 50-foot putt in which the prize is $1,000; three other possible hole-in-one prizes; and a very wonderful selection of raffle prizes donated by area businesses and individuals. There is also a “Big BBQ” raffle package this year with an estimated value of $650. Tickets for the Big BBQ can be purchased for $20 each.
