Groups announce community concerts
The Pend Oreille Chorale, Orchestra and Ensembles will be presenting their spring concerts, “Music Through the Ages” on Friday and Sunday, June 17 and 19, at the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint. These free concerts at at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Pieces sung and played will cover the 1500s through 2015 by such composers as Schutz, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Grieg, Thompson, Loeillet, and Mark Reiner, also including an African-American spiritual, and an English folk song. The first half of the program will be performed by the chorale and an accompanying woodwind quintet, directed by Caren Reiner. After intermission, two instrumental ensembles will play, followed by the two closing numbers with orchestra and chorale combined.
“We wanted to present music of varied styles from late Renaissance, through Baroque, Classic, Romantic and present day. We hope the community enjoys this overview of ‘Music Through the Ages’ as we perform our 23rd season,” said director Mark Reiner.
Reiner also expressed thanks to Dr. Alan Ball, who makes practice CDs to help make performances possible; and to both the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the First Lutheran Church for generously donating rehearsal and performance spaces.
This December’s chorale and orchestra concerts will be Handel’s “Messiah” at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint. Participants must be committed to weekly rehearsals beginning in October on Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The Pend Oreille Chorale and Orchestra have been giving free classical music concerts to the North Idaho area for over 20 years, and are most thankful for the continued kind donations of those who attend.
