June 12, 1916 — MIDSHIPMAN SOLBERG

Word has been received that Art Solberg, who graduated from the Annapolis Naval Academy this year, has been assigned to the battleship New Hampshire with rank as midshipman. Solberg made an excellent record while in school and won a number of medals in athletics.

Solberg is the third man to graduate from the naval college from this town, the other two being Hardy and Ben Page, sons of Dr. O.F. Page. Hardy Page is an ordinance officer on the boat destroyer Cushing in Boston harbor, and Ben Page is an ordinance officer on the gunboat Annapolis which is stationed at Mazatlan on the southwest coast of Mexico.

LARGE ORE STRIKE AT FALLS CREEK

A big strike has been made at the Falls Creek mining property and Sandpoint is much excited over the disclosures. News of the find came in Saturday and with it the proof in a quantity of rich ore. An assay since taken shows a value of $122 per ton, containing copper, lead, silver and gold.

The Falls Creek Mining company’s property consists of four full claims and a mill site, located on Falls Creek, about two and one-half miles from Granite Creek landing on Pend d’Oreille lake, 20 miles from Sandpoint. The large majority of stock in the mine is owned by Sandpoint citizens; the supplies for the mine have been and will continue to be bought in Sandpoint. Hence the strike means a great deal to this city.
