LPOSD offers free summer meals

| June 15, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT -- With summer vacation on the horizon, area parents need not worry that their children are missing lunch on weekdays. Lake Pend Oreille School District, in cooperation with the Idaho State Department of Education and USDA, is offering free meals to all children ages 1 through 18.

This federally-funded summer meal program encourages parents to promote positive eating habits and good nutrition even during vacation time. They can join their children for a meal at any of the free lunch locations for just $3.65 per adult, or bring their own food if they prefer.

According to USDA regulations, however, an adult over 18 years of age cannot eat any of a child's free meal. In addition, USDA requires all free food recipients to eat their meals at the designated area in the location where it is served.

Those children wishing to partake in the free summer food program do not need to register in advance, and will not be asked to provide any personal information. No fees are associated with this program. All locations will start serving meals the week of June 27 and continue through the fourth week of August. All locations will be closed July 4.
