Doris Ricker Smith, 93

Doris Ricker Smith, 93, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Services will be held at a later date.

Doris was born on Dec. 13, 1922, to Ralph and Edna (Havercamp) Ricker in Maricopa, Calif. She graduated from Maricopa High School in 1940. She attended Taft Junior College and San Bernardino Valley College.

In February 1942, she met Earl M. Smith and 10 days later they eloped to Yuma, Ariz., and got married. The marriage would last 47 years.

Earl entered the Army and after basic training Doris followed him to different bases and worked at various jobs throughout his career in the Army and Air Force. She worked for the defense department at George Air Force Base for 10 years in local purchase.

In 1964 after Earl’s retirement from the United States Air Force, they moved to Sandpoint and settled in the Rapid Light-ning Creek area

Doris enjoyed feeding and watching all the wild creatures especially the deer and turkeys that found their way to her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents, and three brothers, Burton, Leland, and Donald Ricker; along with her good friend, Darlene Young.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Art Young.
