The mass shooting in Orlando on Sunday, June 12, was shocking and tragic. This shooting was planned and executed by one extremely angry, confused and very disturbed individual. I don’t think he had any connection with any terrorist group. Although he was inspired by the nightclub shooting in Paris.
This shooting was the result of a failure by the FBI’s terrorist tracking system. He was known to the FBI and they investigated him and classified him as no threat. This shooting also proves how useless gun control laws are in preventing incidents of this type; passing more laws won’t improve the situation. I believe this shooter selected this method of final rebellion as a suicide farewell.
The gun control groups are, of course, demanding more gun control legislation. Gun control laws haven’t prevented mass shooting in the past and won’t prevent them in the future. All laws are intended for the law-abiding. If you were planning a violent act where you were guaranteed to be killed, would you worry about breaking a law? This is why gun control laws to prevent violent acts are asinine.
