Fun abounds at museum

SANDPOINT — The tranquil, woodsy setting of the Bonner County History Museum belies the energetic activities that frequently take place within. Two events coming up over the next two weeks offer area residents the chance to put their fingers on the pulse of local history.

Museum Administrator Cameron Murray invites the public to join the Bonner County Historical Society at Trivia Night taking place Friday, June 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The evening will feature a friendly trivia competition plus the chance to get to know the museum and other participants.

"Guests will have one hour to absorb as much information as possible by wandering through the museum before competing ... for the title of “best local historians," Murray said. "About half the questions are pulled from museum exhibits. They are welcome to take notes. We are encouraging teams of four to six people to sign up, but welcome individuals, too."

The event, part of BCHM's "Late Night at the Museum" series, will feature refreshments with a pub fare theme and a mystery prize to be awarded at evening's end. Murray asks that attendees register in advance. Entry is $10 for the public and $5 for historical society members.

Also in the offing is a lecture by Linda Hackbarth slated for Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m. A local author and historian, Hackbarth will speak about the Pend Oreille area of the 1860s, which is the topic of her latest book, "Trail to Gold: The Pend Oreille Route." She also penned "Bayview and Lakeview." The Museum of North Idaho published both titles.

The books are available for purchase at the museum, and the author will be on hand to sign copies after the program. She will speak for about 45 minutes, and then take questions from the audience, Murray said. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
