In response to the letter titled,“You never know what you’ll need at the store” (Daily Bee, June 16, 2016):
It’s evident, the author was trying to poke fun at those of us who carry handguns “openly” or “concealed” and why anyone would feel the need to “carry” in a store or such.
Well, the way things are turning in this world, being prepared is much better than being in a situation where one could possibly help and being completely defenseless, as most or all were during the many mass killings that have shocked our very being during the past decade.
Don’t think for one second, it wouldn’t happen in this area. That was the blind-sided vision of those all over our country and around the world. It happened at churches, schools, concerts, parks, and sadly there will be many more. I am one who always carries “openly,” everywhere possible. I do hold two “concealed carry” permits, but I believe, the more of those who would do bad things who see us “good guys” armed, the less likely they will be to take murderous action.
Have you yet heard where some nut attempted a killing spree where police or openly armed citizens were present? Of course not. These murderers/ would be murderers are sick cowards. They only prey on the weak and defenseless.
So, when you see one of us “good guys” who is “carrying openly” you actually should thank him/ her. The weapons we carry are there to protect you (your children) as much or as more as they are to protect ourselves.
Hopefully, I and others like me will never have to defend anyone, but there may be a day when you, your loved ones (children, friends, relatives) or ourselves are in a deadly situation and we just may be able to stop another senseless mass killing.
One time, I even had a bank teller say she always felt more secure when I entered her place of business.
One who cares about us all,
RODGER MORALES
