POST FALLS — Crashes were averted after two moving vehicles were damaged by rocks that had been thrown in Post Falls early Monday morning about an hour apart.

Post Falls Police Capt. Greg McLean said no suspects have been identified in either case and, while the two incidents are likely related given the similar nature, location and timing of both, detectives don't definitively know that for sure.

One of the incidents occurred on westbound Interstate 90 at 1:18 a.m. as the male driver told police the windshield of his 1991 Chevy 1500 pickup sustained damage from a rock as he drove under the Greensferry Road overpass.

"(The driver) exited the interstate at Spokane Street and circled around on Seltice Way looking for the males," the police report states. "Officers were in the area shortly after the call, but were unable to locate anyone."

The driver described the two suspects as male teenagers. One was wearing a gray sweatshirt, the other was dressed in dark clothing. The suspects were on the north side of the overpass facing east.

The driver estimated the cost to replace his windshield would be $350 to $400.

In the other case, a Lincoln MKZ was damaged in the 1500 block of East Third Avenue at 12:04 a.m.

The female driver told police she was westbound on Third near the intersection of Bay Street when she heard what she believed was a rock hit her vehicle's passenger side.

"She made a U-turn and observed silhouettes running toward Black Bay Park, but lost visual of them," the police report states.

Officers also didn't locate the suspects after responding to the area. Two golf-ball-sized dents were left on the vehicle and damage was estimated to be $800.

The two incidents occurred less than a mile from each other. McLean said the incidents could have easily caused crashes and even more damage or injuries to the drivers.
