I’d like to follow up on some of Steve Klatt’s statements made in an article in the Daily Bee (June 28, 2016) concerning the activities in Garfield Bay on the Fourth of July weekend.

His statement on “out of control” and “over-consumption of alcohol” may have occurred many years ago. However, it has now become a very family oriented affair with a pancake breakfast, parade, face painting, free hot dogs and drinks and games for the kids and music in the park.

The parking issue is a valid concern, but this was addressed at our Garfield Bay Committee meeting which Mr. Klatt attended. We are providing a large lot with all donations for parking going to the Boy Scouts who will be attendants with adults.

I would also like to know what residents in Kilroy and Pine Cove that access their cabins on weekends by boat are intending to do with their trucks and trailers if they will now be towed away per the new ordinance

Over the past several years we have also had an off-duty sheriff’s deputy to walk around the beach, patrol the bay and have had no serious incidents.

To portray Garfield Bay as anything less or different than that of any other large community event is both misleading and offensive.
