Norris, Collado nab All-4A IEL hoop honors
SANDPOINT — One carried the offensive load, and the other anchored a very stingy defense, as Sandpoint seniors Davan Norris and Carlos Collado were each named to the All-4A Inland Empire League team, as voted on recently by the league’s coaches.
Norris was the leading scorer in the league, earning the respect of opposing coaches by being voted Most Valuable Player. He scored at least 19 points in nine games, and eclipsed the 30 point mark twice against Moscow and Priest River. He did most of his damage from beyond the arc.
“He’s a decent offensive player. He had a couple of 35 point games for us this year,” said Bulldogs head coach Kent Leiss. “Offensively, he’s a good player, but he improved his defense this year.”
Even though Collado scored in double figures seven times this season, he earned a spot on the team more for his defensive exploits, playing a large role in anchoring a Bulldog defense that was tough to score on all season.
“A big presence in the middle. He’s our anchor on defense,” described Leiss, lauding his dedication to the program. “He hasn’t missed a practice in two years, and he plays hard all of the time.”
The two three-sport athletes were also All-State in football.
