Quick fixes often found to be poor solutions

A quick fix is usually a poor solution, if any solution at all, and rash judgments frequently result in unintended consequences.

Our legislative process is a deliberate one, and purposefully so. The framers believed that a slow-moving legislature would be less able to infringe upon the citizens’ rights and liberties, and is intended to keep government closer to the people and not encourage the rapid growth and centralization of the federal government. The House of Representatives was to be accountable to the people, and the Senate was to be accountable to the states. The executive branch has the power of the veto, and the judicial is responsible for determining the relationship of enacted laws to the Constitution.

Rep. Sage Dixon represents Boundary and Bonner counties in the District 1B Idaho House of Representatives seat. For the rest of the story, see the print edition of the Bonner County Daily Bee or subscribe to our e-edition.
