T-Wolves top Bulldogs in opener
COEUR d'ALENE — Cassidy Story won a 7-4 third set tie-breaker at No. 1 girls singles, registering the lone singles win as the Bulldogs lost 8-6 to 5A Lake City in a season-opening tennis dual on Wednesday at Lake City High School.
“Cassidy shook off the early season jitters and turned the match around with her steady ground game and penetrating cross-court winners,” said head coach Kent Anderson. “Winning a three-set tie-breaker was a great start to the season for Cassidy.”
The Bulldogs had better success in doubles, winning four of a possible six matches, including a strong performance by Michael Favor and Matthew Curtiss at No. 2 doubles.
“Michael and Matthew baffled their opponents with their outstanding speed on the court,” praised Anderson. “These two athletes have a huge upside.”
The Bulldog boys host Pullman on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., while the Bulldog girls hit the road. Washington doesn't have mixed doubles, instead playing four singles matches and three doubles matches for both boys and girls.
