Bulldog baseball, softball teams fall to Vikings
COEUR d'ALENE — Kylie Smith hit a double and a triple, helping the Vikings beat the Bulldogs 13-1 in a nonleague game at Larry Schwenke Field.
Pitcher Breana Burke had nine strikeouts and walked none, allowing five hits for Coeur d'Alene (2-0).
Bri Baldree struck out four, and Alison Calvert striped two hits to lead the Bulldogs (0-1), who got a chance to finally get outside.
“Our defense performed admirably for our first time playing on a field this season,” said head coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams. “Our batters were aggressive and we got five hits off of one of the best pitchers in the state because of that.”
Sam Holland ripped a double for the Bulldogs, who will score some runs this season.
“They have a couple of good hitters,” Vikings head coach Darren Taylor said of Sandpoint. “They're going to be OK this year.”
Sandpoint is at Lewiston on Saturday for a doubleheader.

COEUR d'ALENE — Nathaniel English and Jonny Plum drove in three runs each, leading the Coeur d'Alene Vikings past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 10-0 in a nonleague baseball game on Thursday at Ted Page Field.
“Honestly, we did everything well today,” Coeur d'Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “We played really spectacular defense and took a lot of hits away.”
Brendan Delgado struck out six and walked none for Coeur d'Alene (2-0).
The Bulldogs (0-2) finished with just four hits, still trying to find their footing early in the season.
Sandpoint is at Lewiston and Orofino on Saturday.

n JV softball team falls by one run
The Sandpoint JV had a strong showing in the season opener, as Audrey Mattila pitched a strong game and Ember Dewey was solid behind the plate as the Bulldogs fell 3-2 against a traditional state power Viking program.
Tanis Davis came in as a relief pitcher for the Bulldogs. The defense was spot on, especially since this was only their second time on a field. Rosie Kummer played great defense in the field.
The Bulldogs were down 3-0 at the top of the 7th inning and battled back to nearly tie the game.
