Bri Baldree struck out four, and Alison Calvert striped two hits to lead the Bulldogs (0-1), who got a chance to finally get outside.

“Our defense performed admirably for our first time playing on a field this season,” said head coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams. “Our batters were aggressive and we got five hits off of one of the best pitchers in the state because of that.”

Sam Holland ripped a double for the Bulldogs, who will score some runs this season.

“They have a couple of good hitters,” Vikings head coach Darren Taylor said of Sandpoint. “They're going to be OK this year.”

The Sandpoint JV had a strong showing in the season opener, as Audrey Mattila pitched a strong game and Ember Dewey was solid behind the plate as the Bulldogs fell 3-2 against a traditional state power Viking program.

Tanis Davis came in as a relief pitcher for the Bulldogs. The defense was spot on, especially since this was only their second time on a field. Rosie Kummer played great defense in the field.

The Bulldogs were down 3-0 at the top of the 7th inning and battled back to nearly tie the game.
