Gone are the days of the Wild West when a person could do almost anything and get away with it. But now we have regulations like not murdering your wife, and thousands more filling libraries.

While it is a good idea for our legislators to review those acts and thin out the useless ones, Bonner County is blessed with three ideologues determined to get rid of any regulations not to their liking, and in doing so, they are creating quite a stir.

When one citizen wrote a letter to the editor objecting to the expansion of an illegal shingle mill operation that doesn't make shingles, he suffered retaliation by a commissioner trying to get him fired from his job.

The habit of firing people has extended to getting rid of “bureaucrats” dedicated to doing good planning for the community. Will the citizens have to pay to defend those mean-spirited actions?

Now the commissioners are dumping the existing land use code and presenting us with one that eliminates challenges to their nonsense.

The time has come to fire the perpetrators. Since they advocate returning to some Wild West ways, perhaps we could eliminate the undesirables by using the old rail-riding, tar and feather method.
