I’m pleased my letter on the siphon idea to cool Priest River and make it more habitat friendly for trout has spurred some interest in a trout fishery for the river below Priest Lake dam.

With all due respect to a pilot’s power of observation, Idaho Fish and Game’s snorkeling survey of trout in the lower Priest River deemed that habitat, which can always be improved, was sufficient for trout livelihood and reproduction; and that high water temperatures in the summer was the main reason for the lack of a viable trout fishery.

The rock wing dams as suggested by Mr. Wetzel might well increase the trout holding structure of the river and is well worth exploring along with the water temperature issue.
