May 1, 1966 — ELKS CLUB CHORUS

Sandpoint’s popular Elks club chorus and quartet will be featured at the Elks lodge Saturday, officials announced. The program starts at 8:30 p.m. and is open to all Elks members and guests.

Chorus members are Chet Howell, Al Herman, Ray Kincaid, Russ Sayre, Carl Verdal, Bob Kalb, Bruce Gordon, Joe Ross, Tom Brackney, Doug Rude, Bill Remmers and Bob Melior. Director is Dale Lange. Accompanist is Warren Marley.

LIONS ANNOUNCE ELECTIONS

Dell Brown will head the Sandpoint Lions club for the coming year. Other officers elected: Clarence Stillwell, first vice-president; Joe Swendig, second vice-president; Dick Anderson, third vice-president; Dale Strecker, secretary; Gene Chamberlain, treasurer; Dave Rud, tail-twister, and John Puzuhanic, alternate; Wayne Hook, lion tamer; Steward Tollbom and Ed Eitzman, directors. One-year carryover directors were Lee Mahler and Don Engle.

COLBURN NEWS

Denny Timblin, Rusty Green, Pearly Decker and Gary Finney, all attending the University of Idaho, came home a week ago for the Easter vacation and have now returned to their studies.

May 1, 1916 — BRICKYARD OPENS SOON

The Anderson brickyard will begin operating in a week or ten days according to manager Oscar Anderson. The entire plant has been remodeled this spring to prepare for the season’s run. About 25 men will be employed there this summer.

INSURANCE RATES WILL BE REDUCED

Mayor Himes yesterday received the glad news that the long sought fire insurance rate reduction in the city’s business section is near at hand; that passage of the already drawn building ordinance will complete the changes demanded by the board of underwriters and result in the immediate relief asked. This, coming as it does immediately after the announcement of a general rate raise all over the state, is quite a surprise for Sandpoint.

NEW S.I. SERVICE APPRECIATED

The new train service inaugurated a week ago on the S.I. railroad is being appreciated according to local agent O.R. Sundin, who said the average outbound travel is 45 daily and inbound 50 daily.

He said that until arrangements are made for the Calgary passenger train to stop at Forest Siding, Riverton and McArthur, travelers will be picked up by the freight train leaving here at 10:30 a.m.

The family of G.S. Helphrey has moved from their home on the corner of Sixth and Oak to the McFarland residence on 509 South Second.
