Lund-Andersen, Davidson lead Bulldogs at Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Finan Lund-Andersen won the 1,600 to beat 45 other runners, Mark Kennaly won the 800 and Carlos Collado the shot put to lead the boys, and Hannah Davidson doubled up to win both the 400 and 800 meters to lead the girls team, as both the Bulldog boys and girls finished fourth on Friday at the 16-team Timberlake Invitational at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.

With just one meet on Thursday before Regionals, the athletes were in tune up mode, running their strongest events and working on improving their times and distances.

Corinne McClelland started the day off with a 3rd place finish in the 3,200, running a 12:05, and Clara Bonet Sallent was 10th with a PR or 13:34. Daniel Radford ran for the boys and had an 11:47 PR. Next came the 100, and Jaelyn Martin placed 5th, tying her PR with a 13.56. Claire Keener was 9th with a 13.78. For the boys, Jackson Diercks was 2nd with a 11.63, Colton Engel was 3rd with a 11.78, and Tyren Witthaus was 5th with an 11.96.

Also in the girls 800 was YeoWon Yarnell with a 3rd place PR of 2:26.15 and a 9th place finish for Erin Meek who ran a PR of 2:43.50. For the 400, Dana Beaty was 5th in a PR of 1:04.71 and Niah Brass was 6th with a 1:05.06 PR.

The boys 800 was won by Kennaly in a 2:00.92, also leading wire to wire. In 4th place was James Bradley in 2:05.16, and Kyle Almeida also ran a PR in 2:16.25. For the 400 Teagan Dieter ran a PR for 10th in 55.67.

In the girls 200, Claire Keener ran a season PR to place 6th in 27.71. The boys 4x100 team of Diercks, Engel, Kyle Perry and Kaleb Merrill took 2nd with a 44.72 and the girls 4x200 team was 4th with a 1:53.62. To finish out the night was the twilight mile. In the girls true mile, Niah Brass took 3rd out of 26 runners in a 5:48.73 (5:46 1600), Kaly Scheel was 5th in 5:52.3 (5:50 1500) and Chloe Braedt was 12 in a 6:03 for Sandpoint. Jacob Graham was 3rd in 4:36.15, Sloan Woodward 10th in 4:58.91 and Clay Rasmussen was 13th in 5:04.67 for the boys.

In throws, Collado was 1st in the Shot (41’ 9) and 5th in the Discus (127’ 8), and Sam Johnson was 6th in the shot (40’ 2” PR). For the girls, Janice Aylward was 3rd in the shot with a 33’ 10 throw, and Paige DuMars was 8th with a 30’ 3.5”. DuMars was also 8th in the disc with a 93’ 4.

In the Pole Vault, Hannah Davidson was 4th for the girls with an 8’ vault, while Lily Waldrup was 8th in 7’6. The boys Pole Vault did not finish due to rain.

In the girls Long Jump, Lacie Redding was 3rd in 15’ 2, with Jezza Hutto 5th in 14’ 11. Elaine Huang was 6th in the High Jump with a 4’ 6” jump, with YeoWon Yarnell, Lillian Anderson and Saydee Brass tied for 11th with 4’ 2. The boys had Payton Finney jump 17’ 2 and Eric Suhr 17’ 5 in the Long Jump.

On Thursday, Sandpoint competes at the meet of Champions where 22 boys and 20 girls have qualified. In order to qualify, an athlete has to have one of the top 16 results in their event when compared to all 14 schools from District I (Cd’A, Lake City, Post Falls, Sandpoint, Lakeland, Timberlake, Bonners Ferry, Priest River, Kellogg, Wallace, Clark Fork, Kootenai, St. Maries, CDA Charter).
