Sandpoint Middle School girls track team remains undefeated on the season

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Middle School girls team finished first recently in a quad meet with Post Falls, Lakeland and River City Middle Schools.

Hattie Larson got her first victory in the 1,600 with a time of 6:05, followed by teammates Annaby Kanning in 3rd, Camille Neuder in 5th, and Helen Wells in 7th. It was another PR day for Wells, who has taken 2:30 off her mile time since the season has started.

The 4x100 team of Jordie Breeden, Taitam Bowen, Maddi Morgan and Kaylee Solis placed 2nd, while Bowen also had a 4th place finish in a fast-paced 200. Jordie Breeden stayed undefeated in the 100 meters and Long jump with a time of 13.45 and a distance of 13 feet.

Competing for first in the Long jump was teammate Maddi Morgan, who finished second by just three inches taking second by , while teammate Makayla Chapman was 4th. A rare combination of power and leaping ability, Chapman also won the shot put with a distance of 26-7.

The one-two punch of Olivia Lynch in 1st and Megan Parnell in 2nd strike again in the high jump for the third time this season. Camillie Neuder had a PR in the 800 and placed 4th. Anneli Wedemeyer and Hattie Larson were first and second in the discus, respectively. Olivia Lynch and Serenity Landis have been rapidly improving in the 400, as Lynch improved her time by more than four seconds, good enough for 4th as Landis also shaved three seconds off her time.

The boys team took third with a score of 31 points. Jacob Suhr, a rookie at the shot, posted the only 1st place finish for the boys with distance of 33’10”. Spencer Rucker was 3rd in the discuss. Garrett Chandler and Walker Herman were 3rd and 4th in the long jump, respectively. Garrett Chandler also scored points in the high jump by placing 2nd.

Jacob Ryan had a great day, recording two PR’s in both the 100 open and 110 hurdles. He was 3rd in the hurdles followed by Jaxon Pettit in 4th. The relay team of Pettit, Walker Hermann, Garrett Chandler and Jacob Suhr took 2nd with a season best time of 52.40. Walker also took 2nd in the 200 followed by teammate Braden Kappen in 5th.

The Bullpups then traveled to Lake City High School to take on Woodland, Post Falls and River City. and despite not having major point scorer Jordie Breeden, they remained undefeated on the season by beating River City by just four points.

Starting the team off right again was Hattie Larson with her second 1st place finish in the 1,600 with a time of 6:08, followed by Camille Neuder in 3rd. Neuder had a big day with PR’s in both the 1,600 and 800. She finish 3rd in the 800 followed by Helen Wells with her first podium finish and a PR for 4th place.

Taitiam Bowen continues to hit the podium in the 200 placing 3rd. Emi Lynch stepped in for Breeden in the 4x100 for a 3rd place finish. The 4x200 team of Camille Neuder, Sydnie Knepper, Olivia Lynch, and Serenity Landis placed 2nd.

The girls dominated the field events again, taking first in all of them. Maddie Morgan jumped 13’2” in the long jump for 1st, and teammates Makayla Chapman and Emi Lynch came in 4th and 5th. Chapman won the shot put again with a PR of 28’10”. Anneli Wedemeyer had her 3rd straight victory in the discuss with a throw of 71’4” and her first podium finish in the shot placing 3rd. Kaitlyn Stewart was 3rd in the discus.

Olivia Lynch and Megan Parnell strike again for the 4th time this season going 1st and 2nd in the high jump. Lynch won with a jump of 4’4”.

Walker Hermann and Jacob Suhr led the Bullpups, each placing 1st in their events. Hermann got his first victory of the season in the 200 with a time of 26.13. Hermann also placed 5th in the long jump. Suhr threw almost four feet further than Tuesday to win the shot with a distance of 37’1”. Suhr showed s a good combination of speed and strength placing 5th in the 200, edging out teammate Braden Kappen, who took 6th.

Jacob Ryan and Jaxon Pettit continue to be consistently fast in the 110 hurdles placing 5th and 6th. Pettit has also been improving his 400 meter race strategy placing 5th. Garrett Chandler has been very consistent this season in the high jump and long jump placing 2nd in both. Conner Moreno had his highest finish of the season in the high jump placing 3rd.

“We have had a lot of PRs this week because the kids work hard, have a great attitudes, and they each desire to get better,” said head coach Jake Peterson. “Hopefully with some rest this weekend that trend will continue into the district championship meet at Lakeland on Wednesday.”
