RATHDRUM — Jack Reeves shot 79 to lead the Bulldog boys, and Caroline Hawkins shot 99 to lead the girls, as the Sandpoint golf team competed at the Lakeland Invitational on Thursday.

Playing on the tight fairways of Twin Lakes, the boys team dropped off considerably from Tuesday’s home meet, while Lakeland used their home course to beat the Bulldog boys after getting trounced on the Idaho Club. Nick Crowley (85), Damien Fitzpatrick (89), Caelin Darling (105) and Jacob Humrich (106) rounded out the boys scores, as each was considerably higher than Tuesday’s round at the Idaho Club.

“We had trouble keeping it on the fairway with our tee shots,” said Bulldogs head coach Tom Tharp, who feels the race for the boys district trophy between the Hawks and Bulldogs will be very tight. “We’re going to have to play steady golf, just no blow up holes.”

Caroline Hawkins and Hannah Hurst (105) were the lone two Bulldog girls in action at the Links, where Hawkins finished third among the 4A girls, which she’ll need to do again at districts to punch her ticket to state.

“Caroline was third among all girls, and would have qualified for state today,” said Tharp, who hopes one of his girls can earn a top three finish at districts. “She’s our best chance as an individual, and she’s very capable of doing it.”

The district tournament is Monday at the University of Idaho Golf Course. The top team, and top three individuals from the 4A IEL will earn berths to state.

Districts: Monday, at 11 a.m. at U of I course. Top team, and top three individuals earn berths at state.
