Six Bulldogs earn wins at Meet of Champions

POST FALLS — Junior Spencer Bassett won the triple jump, one of a whopping six Bulldog boys to win an event on Thursday at the District 1 Meet of Champions in Post Falls, where only the 16 top times or marks from the entire district are invited to compete.

Cole Hooper (pole vault), T.J. Davis (110 high hurdles), Mark Kennaly (800), Finan Lund-Andersen (1,600) and Jacob Graham (3,200) also picked up wins in a really strong showing.

Bassett also teamed with Colton Engel, Kaleb Merrill and Jackson Diercks to finish third in the 4X200, while Diercks also finished fourth in the 100, and teamed with Engel, Merrill and Kyle Perry to finish third in the 4X100. Sawyer Seley was fifth in the long jump, the only other Bulldog boy in the top five.

“It was good to see so many of the kids compete well today,” said head coach Matt Brass, of the 15 team meet with all classifications represented. “The boys placed 4th as a team.”

Hannah Davidson finished second in the 800, Cori McClelland third in the 3,200, Yeowon Yarnell fourth in the 800 and Janice Aylward fifth in the shot to lead the Bulldog girls.

“The girls had great showing in the 800,” said Brass, noting Davidson lost by just .04 seconds. “We have one week to fine tune, but both teams are in place to contend for Regional titles.”

The Regional Championships start next Thursday at Coeur d’Alene High School.
