Stevens wins medalist honors at St. Maries meet

ST. MARIES — Wade Stevens carded a career-low 82 to lead Clark Fork, earning medalist honors in a sudden death playoff on Wednesday at the St. Maries Golf Course.
The sophomore has been steadily dropping strokes all season, and after tying a Wallace player with an 82, the two played a sudden death playoff, with Stevens dropping a clutch par for medalist honors.
“He’s been consistent all season long, and had a really good day, driving well and making the putts,” said Wampus Cats coach Brian Arthun. “In a sudden death, one hole playoff, he showed a lot of poise and parred the hole.”
T.J. Henderson shot 112 and Jordy Dick 133 for the boys team.
Lakeside’s Rachael Arthur earned girls medalist honors with a 100, just ahead of Brooke Stevens, who shot a 105 for the Wampus Cat girls. With fellow freshman Tessa Sutton shooting a 112, the Cats could have a couple of players capable of making state in the future.
The Cats will play at the district tournament in Orofino on Monday, and without complete teams, will be vying for individual berths to the state golf tournament. Arthun feels the Stevens siblings could each punch their ticket to state with solid rounds.
“If he plays as well as he did on Wednesday, he’ll have a good shot to make it,” said Arthun of Wade. “Brooke played really well too, a couple shots here or there and she would have been medalist. She has a shot at (getting to state).”
