For me, the choice for Bonner County sheriff could not be clearer.

While Terry Ford has focused his law enforcement experience and career strictly to patrol functions, Sheriff Daryl Wheeler has dedicated his career to training, management, communication and community service. Mr. Ford says that he was a master corporal but what that really means is that he chose to focus himself away from training, supervision and management to a rank attained primarily through longevity with the Idaho State Police. The Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training describes a master certification as having “completed a minimum of 15 years of fulltime law enforcement service in assignments which did not include fulltime supervisory, management or executive positions.” His stated “field training officer” role is not one of supervision but rather an introduction to patrol for new recruits. We need a proven leader, not an inexperienced sheriff’s applicant.
