Our current sheriff claims he has the power to decide which laws to enforce. But, Idaho Code requires him to enforce all state laws and codes. Our founding fathers rebelled against a ruler who made laws, interpreted laws, enforced laws, and was arbitrary. So, they divided powers and in those powers, one government branch makes laws, another interprets laws (courts) and then grants powers to enforce them. Our sheriff’s job is to enforce the law of the land: county, state and federal and takes an oath of office to carry on that responsibility. Ominously, it appears our current sheriff also feels he can choose which laws to carry out as he has stated at public forums.

In America, we need to vote to support people who will carry out laws as written until changed not attempt to interpret the Constitution in their mind as what shall be followed. Our chance is May 17 on the Republican primary ballot. Vote for Terry Ford; vote for a sheriff with honesty, integrity, commitment to enforcing our laws, and who will work hard to keep us safe.

If you are unaffiiated, you can request a Republican ballot and register Republican on the spot! Not registered? When you go to vote: bring proof of residence and photo ID to register at that time.
