Sage Dixon
1: A desire to continue the representation I have provided during my prior term in office.
2: I bring a firm vision of the proper role of government, and a professional, respectful demeanor.
3. Our economy is an important issue because of the needs that our current industries have for stability and skilled labor in order to maintain their current status and to plan for future growth. Federal encroachment into our State is also an issue because of its effect on our land, our water, and our education system.
4. We can address these issues by increasing educational opportunity, strengthening our role as a state in a union, and protecting our industries from overregulation.
5. I would be pleased with a legacy of a smaller, more efficient government that follows the template created by our founders. I believe this is the best way to secure the rights and liberties of every citizen.
6. 1. Ig- noring of the doctrine of the separation of powers. We see the federal government not respecting the role of the states, as well as the executive branch making law through rules and regulations.
2. Federal overreach. Related to the above issue with the federal government and federal agencies inserting themselves into state and local government.
3. State spending. I believe we can operate more efficiently than we currently are
7. Solutions would be to:
Strengthen the role of the legislative branch within the state
Strengthen the role of the state versus the federal government
Base budget on revenue received and not on projected revenue
8. Arrive at Capitol at approximately 7 a.m. to read/write legislation; morning committee meeting at 9 a.m.; floor session at 11 a.m.; lunch; afternoon committee meeting at 1:30 p.m.; read/write legislation at 3:30 p.m.; evening event or go home at 6 p.m.; sleep at 11 p.m.
9. Continuing to represent the issues important to District 1 and working to reform our government.
10. I see federal encroachment as an immense challenge that could be addressed by decreasing our dependency on federal funding. Another challenge is our economic stability, which can be attended to by protecting existing businesses, and reducing barriers to new businesses.
11. The danger of the ever-increasing size and scope of government.
12. I expect the criticism of my perceived opposition to the public school system.
I would point to my work on the Education Committee, and to my relationship with our District 1 school boards, administrators, and teachers.
13. I would like to communicate that we have been, and continue to be, headed towards a large, centralized government that resembles a socialist democracy, and not the constitutional republic we were intended to be. This is a threat to every person’s liberty.
14. Question: What is the proper role of government?
Answer: To protect and promote an individual’s right to life, liberty, and property.
