Bulldog girls win Regionals; boys 2nd

LEWISTON — With the Regional championship still to be decided, it all came down to the final race for the Sandpoint girls track team on Friday at the 4A Region 1 Track and Field Championships in Lewiston.

The 4X400 relay was the last event of the day, and Moscow and Sandpoint were separated by just a couple of points when Niah Brass, Dana Beaty, Rainey Woodward and Hannah Davidson took the track.

Head coach Matt Brass was right there to cheer his team on, and they delivered.

“The girls team title came down to the last race, and it was fantastic. If the girls win, we win. If they get second, we tie, and if they get third, we lose team title,” described Bulldogs head coach Matt Brass. “They ran an 11 second PR to win the race.”

The Bulldog boys finished second, with T.J. Davis winning the 110 high hurdles, Finan Lund-Andersen the 1,600 and Mark Kennaly the 800. All in all, it was a strong two days for the Bulldogs, with a host of boys and girls punching their tickets to state.

“A large, quality group is heading to state,” said Brass. “It was an exciting day.”
