Davidson leads Bulldog girls to Regional title

| May 17, 2016 1:00 AM

LEWISTON — Some strong performances were turned in and scores of personal bests achieved, and when the dust had settled, the Bulldogs qualified 14 girls and 10 boys to state at the 4A Region 1 championship on Saturday at Sweeney Track at Vollmer Bowl.

Hannah Davidson had a huge meet, winning four events to help the Bulldog girls claim the regional title.

“Hannah had a great Regionals, with four individual titles in the pole vault, 800, 4X400 and medley relays,” said head coach Matt Brass of his versatile sophomore, who holds hte second fastest 800 time in the 4A ranks. “She just had a fantastic meet.”

Arguably the race of the meet took place in the 1,600, where less than two seconds separated Moscow winner Josh Corgatelli and Bulldog teammates Finan Lund-Andersen and Jacob Graham. All three times were under 4:30, with PRs for both Lund-Andersen and Graham. Graham, who now has the fourth fastest time in 4A this year, earned an at-large despite finishing third, while Lund-Andersen has the second fastest time in the state at 4:29, as both continue to drop time.

“The fastest region in the state was ours. It was a great race, and there was multiple lead changes,”described Brass of the 1,600. “The three duked it out coming down the stretch. (Corgatelli) was second in the state in cross country.”

Other strong performances were turned in by: Spencer Bassett, who tied for first in the long jump and hit a season-best 41-0 in the triple jump; freshman Jezza Hutto, who finished second in the long jump with a strong leap of 16-2, beating a Lakeland girl who has the top triple jump mark in the state; Carlos Collado, who doubled up to win the shot and discus; T.J. Davis, who won the 110 high hurdles and continues to drop tenths of seconds each time he competes; Mark Kennaly and James Bradley, who finished second and third in the 800, respectively; Cole Hooper, who went a season-high 12-6 and could be primed to improve; and Janice Aylward and Paige DuMars, who went 1-2 in the shot put.

The 5A/4A state meet is on Friday and Saturday at Dona Larsen Park in Boise.
