Stevens' hold their own at state golf tournament

NAMPA — Brooke and Wade Stevens more than held their own, handling the pressure of state with aplomb, representing Clark Fork on day one of the 2A state golf tournament on Monday at Red Hawk Golf Course in Nampa.
Wade, a sophomore three-sport athlete, shot 90 on the first of two rounds, scoring lower than any player on St. Maries, Genesis Prep and Salmon in a strong showing by a solo state entry.
Freshman Brooke Stevens played like anything but, shooting 103 and like her older brother, going lower than any player on three of the other complete teams competing. Head coach Brian Arthun said some of the Stevens family came down, and the family was enjoying the experience of state.
“This is their first experience with state competition. Wade came out and shot a 90, and he beat the kid who won districts at Genesis Prep,” praised Arthun of his quarterback in the fall. “Brooke struggled a little with putting, but was driving the ball well. She just needs to figure out the greens a little more.”
The tournament wraps up after today’s second round.
