Museum opening honors vets
PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River Museum’s 2016 pre-opening program honoring our veterans will take place Thursday, May 19, at the museum starting at 5:30 p.m. We are hoping for a good turnout of vets who will share with us some of their reminiscences of their time in the military. Dwell on the good memories, not the bad, if you wish; we only desire to honor your service. Call Joe at 448-4426 if you desire more information.
Old Priest River Times newspapers from World War II are filled with letters home detailing the broadening of minds and experiences that took place when local boys left home and encountered the wider world beyond. Tell us what it was like for you, no matter how or when you served. Coffee, lemonade, and cookies will be provided, and the public is invited.
The program is the third pre-opening program the museum has sponsored. The first one dealt with Forest Service lookouts, and last year we learned about the hardships and satisfactions of stump farming in the Priest River Valley. We hope this year’s program will be at least as well attended and enjoyed.
The museum will open for the summer on May 27, the Friday that kicks off Memorial Weekend. A list of docents is being formulated, with some slots already filled. Museum days and hours are Friday, Saturday and Monday, 10-4, and Sunday afternoon, 12-4, through Labor Day, Sept. 5.
Volunteers are always needed to assist our programs. Contact any museum member for information. Thank you to all who supported our successful May 6 fund-raiser, and to Craig Mercer for installing wheelchair accessible thresholds at our doors.
