BOISE - Senior Cassidy Story beat Twin Falls 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, then lost in straight sets to Century, before rallying to beat a Bishop Kelly player 6-3, 6-0 in consolation, one of five Bulldog tennis players still alive in the draw after the first day of the 4A state tennis tournament on Friday in Boise.

In a draw full of many of the top players in the state, Story will compete for a rare state singles medal for Sandpoint, with a consolation semi on tap this morning against Caldwell.

“Cassidy played the match of her life in the quarters of the back draw. After losing the first three games to a very strong Bishop Kelly girl, she reeled off 12 straight wins using powerful serves and penetrating groundies. Easily the best anyone has ever seen her hit, I was truly in awe.”

Laney Search and Khloe Kyllonen shut out Skyview in the opener, before losing a tough three setter 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to Bishop Kelly, before bouncing back to beat Burley 6-1, 6-1 in consolation.

“They came back from a devastating loss in the main draw where a lengthy rain delay destroyed their momentum,” described Anderson. “They rediscovered their mojo in the quarters of the back draw and rolled to a dominating victory.”

Also still playing today are Patrick Rockwell and Matthew Curtiss, who beat Blackfoot 6-4, 6-1, lost to Century 6-1, 6-1, then extended their tournament another day with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Burley, and will face Caldwell in the semis today.

Violet Plummer and Caroline Suppiger cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Burley in the girls doubles opener, then put a scare into No. 1 seed Bishop Kelly, tying the second set at 5-5 before falling 6-2, 7-5. In consolation, they split sets with Blackfoot, then were tied 7-7 in a 10 point tie-breaker before the Broncos closed things out.

Logan Temple won 6-4, 6-4 in the boys singles opener against Blackfoot, lost in straight sets to Century, then was eliminated by the other Century player 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Michael Favor and Liz Parsley beat Twin Falls 6-4, 6-1 in mixed doubles, then lost 6-3, 6-1 to Skyview and 6-2, 6-4 to Twin Falls to end their tournament. Jake Aguirre and Reilly Wolfe lost 6-2, 6-2 to Blackfoot, and 6-3, 6-0 to Caldwell to round out the Bulldogs in action.
