Writing camp deadline set

| May 24, 2016 1:00 AM

Writers @ Harriman is a one-week residential writing camp for high school students. It will be held July 31-Aug. 6, 2016, at Harriman State Park of Idaho, located near Highway 20 between Ashton and Island Park.

Applications must be received before June 15, 2016. Tuition is $175 and scholarships are available. Last year, 40 students from 35 different high schools in five states attended.

The week is designed especially for students who like to stretch their imaginations through writing and want to be outdoors. Optional opportunities included a watercolor class, a handmade paper and books workshop, and a storytelling workshop that culminates in a presentation. One evening, the students ride horses into the nearby mountains. They also hike within the park and swim in Henry’s Fork.

The professional teaching writers guide the students’ writing for about five hours each day and work with them, one-on-one. This year’s teachers are Malia Collins of Boise, Chris Dempsey of Middleton, Megan Levad of Boise and Nicole LeFavour of Boise. Terrece Beesley of Layton, Utah, Daniel Hidalgo of St. Anthony and Jessica Homes of Boise teach the optional classes and workshops.
