Because my husband and I are both unaffiliated voters, we called the county clerk’s office a couple of days prior to the election to be sure we would be able to vote. We were told by whomever answered the phone that we had to be registered Republicans to vote in the Republican primary. We do not live in the Colburn polling district, so it is possible there have been other districts where polling places did not have the right information in handing out ballots.
We have since discovered that the information we received from the county clerk’s office was not correct and that it should be no surprise that the folks who were handling the election at polling districts withheld ballots. Although we are confident that this was not some sort of deliberate misdirection, we trust that in the future, everybody will have correct information, and we’ll all be able to exercise our right to vote.
