May 31, 1966 — NIJC GRADUATES

Sandpoint students who will be candidates for diplomas at the North Idaho Junior College graduation exercises Friday morning, May 27, at 10 o’clock are: Ernest Bartleson, Jr., Cheryl Ann Deshon, Charles Holt and Donald Hull. Students from Hope are Steven Hoss, Allen Kiebert, Nicholas Rhoads, Dale Widel and Phillip Bennett.

CHANGES AT IDAHO FIRST MADE

Personnel changes at the Sandpoint office of the Idaho First National Bank were announced this week by William E. Irvin, president.

Howard C. Faux was moved up from assistant manager to acting manager, replacing William B. Ballard who is taking a leave of absence on his doctor’s orders. Named to assist Faux here is Terry P. Smith, assistant manager, recently at Rigby. Assistant cashiers will be Gary D. Sass who has been with the bank here for sometime and John A. Dreps who is coming from Coeur d’Alene to take a new assignment.

Faux has been here as assistant manager since 1962 when he was transferred from the Fourth Street office at Coeur d’Alene. He has been active in community affairs and is presently serving as a director of the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce. He serves also on the executive board of the Panhandle Council of Boy Scouts.

May 31, 1916 — PASSING OF JAMES HILL

The passing of James J. Hill, the “empire builder,” who died yesterday at his home in St. Paul, takes away a man who had much to do with the development of this area. His railroad, the Great Northern, did a good deal to open up north Idaho and has been a factor in building up the entire northwest. Hill was known to many locals who tell stories of the remarkable man who earned the title of “empire builder,” and who has been called the greatest railway man of his time.

SPOKANE INTL. DINKEY WITHDRAWN

A new schedule will go into effect Sunday on the S.I. railway which will reduce trains over that road to one per day each way, the dinky being dropped from the schedule. The “big” train will take care of local traffic after Sunday, the last trip for the dinky being Sunday morning westbound.

PHONOGRAPH DEMONSTRATION

The Red Cross pharmacy has arranged a demonstration of the New Edison phonograph on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

LUCKY STRIKE MINING COMPANY MEETS

The annual meeting of the Lucky Strike Mining co. stockholders will be held at Clarksfork, Idaho, Tuesday, June 13, 1916, at 2 o’clock p.m. for election of directors or any other business that may come up. A. T. ECKERT, Sec.-Treas.
